Before starting any prescription-based hair restoration program with Fem Haven Rx, it is important to review this safety information. Programs offered through Fem Haven Rx include compounded medications prepared by a licensed U.S. compounding pharmacy pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed provider. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Individual results vary. Nothing on this page is medical advice — always speak with your provider before starting, stopping, or changing any treatment.

Medical Evaluation

Every Fem Haven Rx treatment plan is prescribed only after a licensed U.S. healthcare provider reviews your medical history, current medications, allergies, and overall health profile. This review helps determine whether a compounded formulation is appropriate for you and supports a safer, more personalized plan.

Ingredients You May Be Prescribed

Depending on your intake and provider assessment, your compounded formulation may include ingredients such as Minoxidil, Spironolactone, Biotin, L-Tyrosine, Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, or topical combinations containing these actives. In select cases — and only when clinically appropriate — a provider may consider formulations containing Finasteride or Dutasteride (note: these carry strict pregnancy restrictions — see Section 5). Your provider may also discuss supportive nutrients. Ingredient selection is individualized and is not a recommendation until prescribed by your provider.

Possible Side Effects

Like any medication, compounded hair regrowth formulations may cause side effects. These are not complete lists — report anything unusual to your provider.

Topical formulations may cause:

  • Scalp irritation, redness, itching, dryness, or peeling
  • Temporary shedding in the first 2–8 weeks as follicles cycle
  • Contact dermatitis or allergic reaction to an ingredient
  • With prolonged use of certain topicals, possible unwanted facial hair growth near the hairline

Oral formulations may cause:

  • Changes in blood pressure, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Swelling in the ankles, legs, or face (fluid retention)
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Headache, nausea, or fatigue
  • Hypertrichosis (unwanted hair growth on the face or body) — most commonly reported with oral minoxidil
  • If your formulation contains finasteride or dutasteride: possible sexual, mood, or breast tissue changes. These must be discussed with your provider before starting.

Who Should Not Use These Treatments

These treatments may not be appropriate for you if any of the following apply:

  • You have a history of heart, kidney, or liver conditions
  • You have low blood pressure or a history of fainting
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant (see Section 5)
  • You are allergic to any ingredient in the prescribed compound
  • You are already using a similar medication, unless your provider has specifically approved combined use
  • You have scalp conditions such as untreated infections, open wounds, or severe dermatitis

Disclose all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, supplements, and herbal remedies you are taking — several ingredients used in hair regrowth formulations can interact with blood pressure medications, diuretics, and hormonal therapies.

Pregnancy & Reproductive Safety

Do not use any Fem Haven Rx hair regrowth program if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless specifically cleared by your provider. Several ingredients that may be used in compounded hair formulations — including finasteride, dutasteride, and tretinoin — are considered unsafe during pregnancy and can pose risks to a developing fetus. If a topical formulation contains these ingredients, wash hands thoroughly after application, allow the product to dry before handling others, and avoid contact with anyone who is pregnant. Inform your provider immediately if you become pregnant while on any program.

Common Drug Interactions

Always give your provider a complete list of everything you take. Notable interactions to be aware of:

  • Minoxidil + blood pressure medications or diuretics — additive blood pressure lowering
  • Spironolactone + potassium-sparing medications, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium supplements — risk of elevated potassium levels
  • Finasteride / Dutasteride + hormonal contraceptives or other hormonal therapies — requires provider review
  • Biotin at higher doses may interfere with certain lab tests (including thyroid and troponin) — inform any ordering provider

Monitoring & Follow-Up

Your Fem Haven Rx program includes access to virtual follow-ups with your care team. These visits are used to review how your body is responding, discuss any side effects, and adjust dosing or formulation when appropriate. Regular follow-up is an important part of continued eligibility and supports safer use of your program.

When To Seek Medical Advice Immediately

Stop using the product and contact your provider or seek emergency care right away if you experience:

  • Chest pain, rapid heartbeat, or fainting
  • Shortness of breath or unexplained swelling of the face, lips, or limbs
  • Severe skin irritation, rash, hives, or signs of an allergic reaction
  • Sudden dizziness or blood pressure changes

In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
